The Toutle Lake Ducks will face off against the Seton Catholic Cougars at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Toutle Lake has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Toutle Lake and Rainier, and Rainier kept the tradition alive. The Ducks came up short against the Mountaineers on Thursday, falling 12-2.
Toutle Lake saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jolene Vanhoof, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Seton Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Bruins. The five-run effort marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Jocelyn Kender made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kingsley Williams was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Ellie Travalia was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Seton Catholic's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Toutle Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both Toutle Lake and Seton Catholic just can't seem to miss. The Ducks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Seton Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Toutle Lake skirted past Seton Catholic 7-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Do the Ducks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
