For the first time this season, Midway will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Crest Ridge Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Midway was able to grind out a solid win over Lakeland, taking the game 7-4.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Crest Ridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Maranatha Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Cougars blew past the Eagles 16-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Ethan Hollis and Jackson Hoppenthaler made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Hollis pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Hoppenthaler pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hollis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season. At bat, Hollis got on base in three of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Hoppenthaler got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carsen Hursh and Owen Wyatt did most of the damage at the plate: Hursh got on base in four of his five plate appearances with seven stolen bases and three runs, while Wyatt went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those hits marked the first that Wyatt has got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Dresel, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Crest Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maranatha Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .375.
Crest Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Midway, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Midway got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Crest Ridge by a conclusive 14-4 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
