Basketball Recap: Beaver Comes Up Short

After a string of four wins, Beaver's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a blow against the Kanab Cowboys, falling 72-43. The Beavers lost against the Cowboys in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 53-45 score last time.

Leading Kanab to victory were Kyle Brown and Cash Mortensen. Brown almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds, while Mortensen went 8 of 20 on his way to 22 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Brown has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Trey Castagno was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Beaver's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Kanab, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beaver will square off against Parowan at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaver is facing Parowan at the right time seeing as Parowan is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Kanab, they will challenge Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kanab knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Enterprise likes a good challenge.
