Mt. St. Michael Academy and Xaverian are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2018, but not for long. The Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers will square off against the Xaverian Clippers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mt. St. Michael Academy had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They beat Kennedy Catholic by the very same score they won with last week: 26-12. Given Mt. St. Michael Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Xaverian was able to grind out a solid victory over Holy Cross on Saturday, taking the game 21-14. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Xaverian.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Xaverian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chris Duffy, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jude Vanooyen, who threw for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Mt. St. Michael Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Xaverian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Mt. St. Michael Academy won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in October, slipping by Xaverian 14-13. Will Mt. St. Michael Academy repeat their success, or does Xaverian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
