Germantown (Madison, Miss.) extended its winning streak to five games with a 45-7 victory over Florence (Miss.) on Saturday.
The Mavericks were up 24-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Tyler Shell in the first quarter.
Germantown expanded its lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. GHS scored two times in the third, including once on a rushing touchdown.
Shell stood out for the Madison school in the win. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The Eagles' lone touchdown came on a pass in the first quarter.
The Mavericks came in allowing an average of 26.6 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding Florence well below its season average of 22.4 points scored per game.
GHS got revenge for last year's 42-34 loss to FHS with the victory.
Florence (2-7) goes up against Mendenhall in a 4A Region 6 game matchup next week, while Germantown (5-3) locks horns with Magee also in a 4A Region 6 game.
