The South River Seahawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Westminster Owls at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. South River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Friday, South River made easy work of Severn Run and carried off a 12-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Seahawks.
Addie Binko made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Ford was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Sloane Kelly was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Westminster unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saint James.
Ryley Winebrunner and Alyssa Ward stepped up to the plate in a big way. Winebrunner went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Ward went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That home run was Winebrunner's first of the season.
South River's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Westminster, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Westminster struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South River suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Westminster in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Seahawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
