5A Region II District 10 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Robert Somborn and Jonathon Shannon provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Ryan. The connection went for 66 yards, the longest such play in 5A Region II District 10 this season.
McKinney was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Lions defeated the Lions 35-28 earlier in the week.
McKinney's dynamic duo of Somborn and Shannon proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Somborn threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns and Shannon had 173 yards receiving. Connor Fuentes helped McKinney's passing attack out by catching six balls for 94 yards.
Bryan Driskell was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 267 yards on 37 carries as Boyd fell to Ryan. Teammate Curtis Ladd added to the ground attack by rushing for 90 yards.
The Lions' Somborn and Fuentes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region II District 10 in both passing and receiving yards. Somborn has thrown for 1365 yards this season, while Fuentes has 30 catches for 494 yards. The Broncos' Driskell leads the league in rushing yards with 915.
Plano West moved up to 67 from 142 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wolves were able to make the jump by beating Flower Mound 42-28.
