The Surry County Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Denbigh Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Denbigh will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Surry County extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Cougars blew past Brunswick 12-2.
Dalton Pierce made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). Pierce was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayden Drew, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Blake Edwards was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Denbigh put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Phoebus. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Phantoms. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Phantoms recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Like Surry County, Denbigh also got a great game from a two-way player: Benjamin Clark. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Clark was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Liam Blazek was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jah'Son Smith, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Denbigh always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Phoebus only posted an OBP of .273.
Surry County's record now sits at 3-0. As for Denbigh, their record is now 3-1.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Surry County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Denbigh struggles in that department as they've averaged .538. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
