The Palmer Ridge Bears waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Pueblo County by a score of 43-33. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Palmer Ridge also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Palmer Ridge found their leader in underclassman Corinna Arellano, who scored 17 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Arellano scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Romero, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Pueblo County saw an underclassman step up: Rylee Stupnik scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Stupnik has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Cloie Cortez was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Palmer Ridge's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. As for Pueblo County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmer Ridge will challenge Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Lutheran is ranked 85th, while Palmer Ridge is ranked 76th). As for Pueblo County, they will head out on the road to take on Pueblo Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
