The Baldwin Indians will take on the Wolfson Wolfpack in a tournament on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Baldwin 3.8, Wolfson 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Baldwin gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Nease.
The team relied heavily on Raven Watson, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabella Screws, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Wolfson came tearing into Monday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wolfpack, who have now won 11 games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Madison Saling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Saling was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Wolfson got a big performance out of Hannah Roberts, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Dylan Hetrick, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Wolfson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Baldwin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wolfson, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Baldwin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Wolfson struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Baldwin's way against Wolfson in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Baldwin made off with a 17-1 victory. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolfpack turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
