PHOENIX, Ariz. - the Sabercats had a big 35-point first quarter on Saturday, sealing a 55-13 victory over Arcadia (Phoenix, Ariz.).
Saguaro scored on a
Luke Rubenzer touchdown pass to
Christian Kirk, a touchdown pass by Rubenzer to
Isaiah Bradley, a Rubenzer touchdown pass to Kirk, a touchdown run by Rubenzer and a
Gena Adams touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Rubenzer to Kirk in the first quarter, SHS led 42-0 at the half.
The Scottsdale school expanded its lead to 49 points entering the fourth quarter. The Sabercats scored two times in the third, including once on a punt return touchdown by Kirk.
The the Sabercats raced to 35 in the first quarter alone and never looked back.
The Titans' Alex Reynolds played well. The senior wide receiver caught two touchdowns.
Rubenzer was the top performer for SHS. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
The Sabercats entered the contest giving up 18.4 points per game this year. Saguaro held firm on the defensive front, and kept Arcadia right around the 11.8 points it had been averaging per game.
SHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 70-35.
With the win the Sabercats extended their winning streak to three games.
In a non-conference game next week Arcadia (3-6) takes on Higley, and Saguaro (7-2) will go up against Chaparral also in a non-conference game.
