Oldenburg Academy is 9-1 against Shawe Memorial since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Twisters will face off against the Hilltoppers at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Oldenburg Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They skirted past Milan 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Twisters have posted since April 22nd.
Jacob Stenger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Adam Weber was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Juston Dietz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Oldenburg Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milan only posted an OBP of .172.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shawe Memorial). They blew past Crothersville 13-3 on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Hilltoppers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.
Tyler Hill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hill was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Shawe Memorial's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-17 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Traevin Liston was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Gus Grote was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Shawe Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 2-18. As for Oldenburg Academy, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Everything went Oldenburg Academy's way against Shawe Memorial when the teams last played back in April, as Oldenburg Academy made off with an 18-0 victory. Will the Twisters repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
