It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Fort Campbell Falcons duke it out with Northeast Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Fort Campbell put up the most points they have all season on Monday. They put the hurt on West Creek with a sharp 20-14 victory. Considering the Falcons' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Ryleigh Watry was incredible, going 4-for-6 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Kolmerten, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI and one double.
Watry wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Fort Campbell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Creek only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, Northeast made easy work of University Heights on Monday and carried off a 12-3 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.
Sage Ferguson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Makayla Tusie was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Julie Rollins was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Fort Campbell's record is now 2-4. As for Northeast, their record now sits at 3-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fort Campbell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Northeast struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fort Campbell beat Northeast 9-6 in their previous matchup on Thursday. Does Fort Campbell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northeast turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
