Basketball Recap: Northern Virginia HomeSchool Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Northern Virginia HomeSchool Centurions lost to the Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves on the road by a 57-41 margin.

Saint John Paul the Great Catholic was led to victory by Nina Velandria and Azel Tayamen. Velandria went 8 for 18 to rack up 21 points and five steals, while Tayamen went 6 of 13 en route to 18 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Velandria continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. Maggie Dake also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Northern Virginia HomeSchool has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.

Coming up, Northern Virginia HomeSchool won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Spirit HomeSchool at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. Spirit HomeSchool will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Northern Virginia HomeSchool surely won't give up without a fight. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Saint Gertrude at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
