The Campolindo Cougars entered their tilt with the Miramonte Matadors with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Campolindo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-49 win over Miramonte on Friday. Given Campolindo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Miramonte is ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Gavin Rendle, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Mansour, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Miramonte's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Zwahlen, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Zwahlen has scored all season. Chase Miller was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Campolindo is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Miramonte, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Campolindo will take on Las Lomas at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Las Lomas' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. As for Miramonte, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Berean Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Berean Christian is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
