Chatham is 0-10 against Appomattox County since May of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Cavaliers will be playing at home against the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chatham 3.8, Appomattox County 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Friday, Chatham came up short against William Campbell and fell 7-3.
Chatham saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maci Short, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. Kayleigh Harmon was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Appomattox County entered their tilt with Nelson County on Friday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They never let the Governors get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Raiders have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Paisley Mann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Karly Jenkins was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Hamilton, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Appomattox County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.
Appomattox County pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chatham, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chatham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Appomattox County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chatham might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Appomattox County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Cavaliers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
