After trading leads two times,
University (Irvine, Calif.) snatched the lead for good when
Connor Martin thew a touchdown to
Andrew Yoshioka in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Estancia (Costa Mesa, Calif.) 45-28.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at 28. The Trojans took the lead for good on a touchdown pass by Martin to Yoshioka in the third quarter.
The final score was a stunner, as University was ranked No. 559 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, far below the Eagles' spot at No. 343.
Deion Te' Haywood made a difference for Estancia. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns.
UHS's standout player in the win was
Chase Alibrando. The junior ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Irvine school came away with a 30-22 victory.
The loss snapped EHS's 2-game winning streak.
University (1-2) will play a Pacific Coast game against Corona del Mar next week, while Estancia (2-1) will take on Sonora in a non-conference game.
