Berkeley and Hayward played the most hotly contested game in West Alameda County - Foothill this week, with Berkeley eventually emerging with a 7-6 victory.
Encinal's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Taivale Tautalatasi threw for 65 yards and Corey Sails had 33 yards receiving. On the ground Tyrell Carrigan chipped in 40 yards. Chris Gatling helped Encinal's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.
The Yellowjackets' LAMONT SMITH and XAVIER NELSON have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. SMITH has thrown for 376 yards this season, while NELSON, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has nine catches for 146 yards. Sails from the Jets leads the league in rushing with 309 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bishop O'Dowd takes on Castro Valley. The Dragons are currently in first, while the Trojans are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Encinal and Berkeley face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Joe Tenorio's team comes in having scored 90 this season, while the Yellowjackets have scored 29. The Jets scored 0 points last week as they lost to Bishop O'Dowd.
Encinal made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,280 from 5,529. The advance stemmed from a 16-0 victory over the Jets last week.
