Softball Recap: Simi Valley Gets the Win

Simi Valley took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Thousand Oaks, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Simi Valley Pioneers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Thousand Oaks Lancers on Tuesday. For the Pioneers, this counts as revenge for the 8-0 win the Lancers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Francesca Hall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aurora Zepeda was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Arianna Ochoa also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Simi Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive matches.

Simi Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Thousand Oaks, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simi Valley will welcome Grace at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Simi Valley has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Thousand Oaks, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Righetti at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Thousand Oaks is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
