The West Potomac Wolverines will challenge the Lake Braddock Bruins at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. West Potomac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Friday, West Potomac didn't have quite enough to beat Fairfax and fell 2-1. The match marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
West Potomac saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jillian Lafayette, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Lake Braddock got the win against Alexandria City on Friday by a conclusive 12-3. Considering the Bruins have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mac Verdejo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hailey Hackbarth, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Addison Forde was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Lake Braddock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexandria City only posted a batting average of .214.
The victory made it two in a row for Lake Braddock and bumps their season record up to 12-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for West Potomac, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Both West Potomac and Lake Braddock just can't seem to miss. The Wolverines have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Lake Braddock struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Potomac came up short against Lake Braddock in their previous meeting back in April, falling 6-2. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
