Basketball Recap: Franklin Central Comes Up Short

Franklin Central lost against Zionsville back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Franklin Central Flashes took a 54-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Zionsville Eagles. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Flashes came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Eagles are ranked 147th).

Despite the loss, Franklin Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Payton Duvall went 8 for 12 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks. Duvall's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Graves, who posted 16 points.

Zionsville found their leader in sophomore Mckenzie Chapman, who went 10 of 19 on her way to 23 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Caroline Sampson, who put up four points and nine rebounds.

Franklin Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Zionsville, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-7.

Franklin Central will take on Borden in a tournament on Friday. Franklin Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season. Zionsville and Greensburg will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Greensburg knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Zionsville likes a good challenge.
