The Pawnee City Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Lewiston Tigers on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 16 consecutive losses for Pawnee City and 15 for Lewiston.
Pawnee City suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Sacred Heart, falling 49-9. While losing is never fun, Pawnee City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Sacred Heart is ranked 36th).
Despite the loss, Pawnee City saw an underclassman step up: Ericca Gyhra scored three points along with three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pawnee City struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Meanwhile, Lewiston was beaten by Lourdes Central Catholic 71-10 on Thursday. Lewiston was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-8.
Pawnee City's loss was their 12th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-13. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.0 points per game. As for Lewiston, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.
Pawnee City was taken down by Lewiston 68-16 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pawnee City was down 27-6.
