Baseball Recap: Greenbrier East Wins Going Away Against Martinsburg

Greenbrier East's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Martinsburg Bulldogs as they made off with a 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ashton Cochran and Zion Detko did most of the damage at the plate: Cochran fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3, while Detko went 3-for-5 with one home run and four stolen bases. That's the most RBI Cochran has posted over his last ten matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Graham Brewster, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Greenbrier East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Greenbrier East's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Martinsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Greenbrier East will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair will be back at it again later today.
