5A Special District 1 recap September 17, 2013
Summit scaled the state rankings by moving to 108 from 134 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Special District 1. The Storm were able to make move up by besting Klamath Union 28-22.
Bend lost to West Salem 47-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jordan Neelon ran for 118 yards in the defeat.
Mountain View's dynamic duo of Conor Nehl and Nick Hjelm proved to be unstoppable against Sprague, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Nehl threw for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns and Hjelm had 106 yards receiving. Dantly Wilcox helped Mountain View's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 54 yards.
The Cougars' dynamic duo of Nehl and Hjelm proved tough for the Olympians to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Neelon was the most successful running back in the league this week. Christian Johnson also contributed to the rushing game with 59 yards on the ground.
He was 24-36 with 0 interceptions.
Nehl put up the best numbers in passing as Mountain View fell to Sprague.
Hjelm was the best receiver in the league this week as the Cougars fell to Jay Minyard's team.
Leading 5A Special District 1 in both passing and receiving yards, Mountain View's Nehl and Hjelm have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Nehl has thrown for 604 yards this season, while Hjelm has 17 catches for 266 yards. Neelon from Bend leads the league in rushing with 394 yards.
Summit and the Pelicans played the closest game in the league this week, with Summit eventually emerging with a 28-22 victory.
