Two dominant guards in Lane Gray and Rocky Ammann are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lower Brule Sioux will face off against the Freeman Flyers at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Lower Brule is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Lower Brule pushed their score all the way to 65 last Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wessington Springs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), Lower Brule still had to take the loss.
Despite their defeat, Lower Brule saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gray, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Gray has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Palmier, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Even though Freeman has not done well against Corsica/Stickney recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Freeman took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 64-32 victory over Corsica/Stickney.
Freeman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ammann led the charge by scoring 14 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Tate Sorensen, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Lower Brule's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-7. As for Freeman, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Lower Brule hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59 points per game. However, it's not like Freeman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
