The Southwest Guilford Cowboys will challenge the Northern Guilford Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest Guilford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.7 runs per game this season.
Southwest Guilford took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Western Guilford 20-2. Considering the Cowboys have won three matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Stevee Kendrick made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. Kendrick was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Rachel Wagner was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Aniya Harris was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3.
Southwest Guilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .862. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a classic North v. South duel when Northern Guilford duked it out with Southeast Guilford on Friday. Northern Guilford fell 11-7 to Southeast Guilford.
Dakotah Wilkins put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases.
In other batting news, Asyah Smith and Morgan Headen did some serious damage despite the final result: Smith scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Headen went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
The win got Southwest Guilford back to even at 3-3. As for Northern Guilford, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Southwest Guilford suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Northern Guilford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Southwest Guilford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
