IA Northern recap Sept. 26, 2012
Skylar Williams and Kyle Bryce provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Spring Creek. The connection was good for 62 yards, the longest such play in IA Northern this season.
South Tahoe moved up to 672 from 880 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 46-13 win over Wooster helped the Vikings improve their standing.
Morgan Dirickson and Tyson Ernst gave Churchill County a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Dirickson threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns, while Ernst ran for 226 yards. Trent Tarner also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Bryce was the best wideout in the league this week as Fernley defeated the Spartans. Bryce tallied three receptions for 111 yards. Tim Klotz helped Fernley's passing attack out by catching six balls for 80 yards.
Williams provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Vaqueros beat Spring Creek. He completed 13 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 68 yards.
Churchill County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Greenwave feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dirickson has thrown for 721 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Skye Barton has 15 catches for 284 yards. Ernst leads the league in rushing with 596 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Truckee takes on the Spartans. The Wolverines are currently in first, while Spring Creek is in fifth.
Truckee extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sparks, 56-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Wolverines.
