The KIPP Denver Collegiate White Tigers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the SkyView Academy Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on February 16th. Hopefully KIPP Denver Collegiate focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday.
On Monday, KIPP Denver Collegiate lost to Englewood on the road by a decisive 45-28 margin.
The losing side was boosted by Shaila Ramirez, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Kayla Martel was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for SkyView Academy at home against Denver Waldorf on Friday as the team secured a 51-14 victory. SkyView Academy pushed the score to 44-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Denver Waldorf cut but never quite recovered from.
Maggie Barrett and Lydia Slocum were among the main playmakers for SkyView Academy as the former dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barrett has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Martin, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
KIPP Denver Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for SkyView Academy, they pushed their record up to 7-10 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: KIPP Denver Collegiate have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like SkyView Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
KIPP Denver Collegiate was dealt a bruising 57-5 loss at the hands of SkyView Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2018. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point KIPP Denver Collegiate was down 32-5.
