Grainger got a good showing from Allie Trent, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Trent has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Amanda Kledzik was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was McKinley Mills, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Volunteer came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Chiefs as they made off with a 16-0 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by nine runs or more this season.
Addyson Fisher was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Fisher was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Jenna Thomas was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Zetta Smith was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Volunteer pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Grainger, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-4.
Both Grainger and Volunteer just can't seem to miss. The Grizzlies have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Volunteer struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
