The Champaign Central Maroons suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by MacArthur at home and fell 77-43. While losing is never fun, Champaign Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while MacArthur is ranked 23rd).
Champaign Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aidyn Beck, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Beck posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Nichols, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Champaign Central has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for MacArthur, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 17-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Champaign Central will take on Bloomington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bloomington is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for MacArthur, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Jacksonville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
