After both having extra time off, the Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs and the Kensington KENSINGTON TIGER will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 3:15 p.m. on February 12th. Maritime Academy Charter is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 12-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Maritime Academy Charter pushed their score all the way to 55 last Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Overbrook. While losing is never fun, Maritime Academy Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 649th, while Overbrook is ranked 228th).
Maritime Academy Charter's loss came about despite a quality game from Andy Figueroa, who scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Figueroa has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaseer Mann, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Maritime Academy Charter struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Overbrook pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Kensington waltzed into their matchup last Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They secured a 65-59 W over Bodine. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Kensington can attribute much of their success to Jovan McCants, who scored 22 points, and Elijah Wood, who scored 23 points. McCants is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Deanthony Rodriguez, who scored 11 points.
Maritime Academy Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Kensington, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Monday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Maritime Academy Charter have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Kensington, though, as they've been averaging only 1.9 rebounds per game. Given Maritime Academy Charter's sizable advantage in that area, Kensington will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Maritime Academy Charter against Kensington in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 78-47 victory. With Maritime Academy Charter ahead 44-24 at the half, the game was all but over already.
