The Lake City Tigers will face off against the Kasson-Mantorville Komets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake City has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 25.
On Monday, Lake City came up short against Plainview-Elgin-Millville and fell 9-4.
Ethen Brunkow was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Wohlers, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kasson-Mantorville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They never let Zumbrota-Mazeppa get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Komets have posted against the Cougars since May 9, 2019.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa's batters probably weren't too happy with Quinn Weis, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 16 Ks (he gave up a single walk). With that strong performance, Weis is now averaging an impressive 5.9 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Sam Graunke was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Holden Bolster, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kasson-Mantorville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Kasson-Mantorville has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lake City, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
Lake City skirted past Kasson-Mantorville 4-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Komets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
