Durand hasn't had much luck against Byron recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Railroaders will face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Durand is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Durand came out on top against Carman-Ainsworth on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Railroaders blew past the Cavaliers 14-4. Considering the Railroaders have won three games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kinley Shepard made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Shepard was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Durand got a massive performance out of MaKenzie Jones, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, Jones posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Natalie Freese, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Durand always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carman-Ainsworth only posted an OBP of .370.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Byron faced off against Lakeville on Monday. The Eagles fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 9-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost six in a row.
Emma Glass spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Gracie McDowell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Wilcox, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Byron's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Durand, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Durand came up short against Byron in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 8-4. Can the Railroaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
