Even though the DeSoto County Bulldogs scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, the Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans still came out on top. Winthrop College Prep Academy had just enough and edged the Bulldogs out 58-56. The win made it back-to-back wins for Winthrop College Prep Academy.
Leading Winthrop College Prep Academy to victory were Zamyria King and JoLesa Birkhead. King scored 19 points, while Birkhead scored 28 points. Birkhead has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last 15 times she's played.
Despite the loss, DeSoto County still got an impressive performance from Keyara Montinat, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Montinat has scored all season. Janeris Bing was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
The victory got Winthrop College Prep Academy back to even at 12-12. As for DeSoto County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Winthrop College Prep Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. DeSoto County will be playing at home against the Hurricanes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Manatee will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
