Montabella is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Breckenridge a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Montabella Mustangs will welcome the Breckenridge Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Montabella has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Montabella and Sacred Heart Academy have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Mustangs came up short against the Irish, falling 11-1.
Montabella saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Kauffman, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Breckenridge and Coleman, and Breckenridge kept the tradition alive. The Huskies put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 10-2 win on Friday. The game marked the Huskies' most dominant victory of the season.
Gavin Corbat made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keegan Suhr, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bentley MacLaren, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Montabella's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Breckenridge, their win bumped their record up to 4-8-2.
Everything went Montabella's way against Breckenridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Montabella made off with a 12-3 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
