Maloney is a perfect 10-0 against Platt since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Maloney has four straight victories, Platt has 17 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Maloney barely beat Middletown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Blue Dragons on Monday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
Stella Cicero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Riley Ives was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Iunesty Smart, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Platt came up short against Wethersfield on Monday, falling 18-4.
Platt saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Vernon, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Maloney's win bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Platt, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-18.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Maloney has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Platt struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maloney got the 'W' in their previous matchup on Friday against Platt by a conclusive 17-0 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
