The Demopolis Tigers waltzed into their matchup on Monday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 69-68 win over Brewbaker Tech. Given Demopolis' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Brewbaker Tech is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Brewbaker Tech lost, one person who can't be blamed is Johnathan Williams. Despite the final result, he scored 30 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kevin Honer, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
Demopolis pushed their record up to 13-3 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Brewbaker Tech, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
Coincidentally, Demopolis and Brewbaker Tech will both be playing Selma the next time they take the court. Brewbaker Tech will head out to face Selma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Demopolis will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
