The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots are taking a road trip to take on the Martin Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mission Veterans Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Mission Veterans Memorial will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Alice on Saturday. Mission Veterans Memorial's pitcher stepped up to hand Alice an 11-0 shutout. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by ten runs or more this season.
Jahziel Trevi?o made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Gabriel Cantu was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jase Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Mission Veterans Memorial hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Martin came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals.
Like Mission Veterans Memorial, Martin also got a great game from a two-way player: Edgar Garcia. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Garcia has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Garcia wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Victor Torres, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Mission Veterans Memorial's record is now 6-2. As for Martin, their record now sits at 7-1-1.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mission Veterans Memorial has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Martin struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mission Veterans Memorial was able to grind out a solid win over Martin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mission Veterans Memorial since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
