Basketball Game Preview: Coral Shores Hurricanes vs. Marathon Dolphins

The Coral Shores Hurricanes will venture away from home to square off against the Marathon Dolphins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Coral Shores will be strutting in after a victory while Marathon will be coming in after a loss.

Coral Shores is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Varsity Opponent 62-16.

Coral Shores found their leader in freshman Melanie Estevez, who went 12 of 26 en route to 29 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Estevez has scored all season. London Atkins was another key player, going 5 for 7 on her way to 11 points along with eight boards and five blocks.

Coral Shores smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Marathon unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Wednesday. They fell just short of Ransom Everglades by a score of 48-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Dolphins have suffered since December 4, 2024.

Coral Shores has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points per game. As for Marathon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Coral Shores couldn't quite finish off Marathon when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 43-40. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Marathon's Elena Eubank, who went 11 of 23 en route to 27 points in addition to seven steals and six assists. Now that Coral Shores knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
