Denmark is 9-1 against Marinette since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Marines at 4:30 p.m. Denmark is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Denmark took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Clintonville 7-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Cade Delarwelle made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Denmark is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-4 otherwise. Delarwelle was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braedon Heezen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Josh Gajeski was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Marinette posted their closest win since May 14, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past Oconto Falls 3-2.
Nik Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit.
On the hitting side, Marinette saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Doubek, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was Doubek's first of the season.
Marinette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Marinette's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Denmark, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Everything went Denmark's way against Marinette in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Denmark made off with a 13-3 victory. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
