The Model Secondary School for the Deaf Eagles proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 26) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past School Without Walls 37-34. The win was all the more spectacular given Model Secondary School for the Deaf's disadvantage in MaxPreps' District of Columbia basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while School Without Walls is ranked 19th).
It was another big night for Luke Florio, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Pax Holcomb, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Several Penguins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paul Joire, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Joire is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Ellington Hunt was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Model Secondary School for the Deaf and bumps their season record up to 11-7. As for School Without Walls, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Model Secondary School for the Deaf will take on Leonardtown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for School Without Walls, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Bell at 7:00 p.m. Bell is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
