The Shawnee Redskins will head out on the road to challenge the Century Centurions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Shawnee has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Zeigler-Royalton hit Shawnee with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Redskins lost 14-4 to the Tornadoes. The Redskins haven't had much luck with the Tornadoes recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
DJ Rushing was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Adyson Choate was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Century had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Rangers as they made off with a 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Centurions, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Layla Helman looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kali Crain, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee VanMeter, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base.
Century kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.8.
Shawnee now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Century, their record now sits at 6-4.
