Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Wheeler

Wheeler won the last time they faced Tremont and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wheeler Eagles came out on top against the Tremont Eagles by a score of 51-40. Winning may never get old, but Wheeler sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Wheeler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Macie Arnold led the charge by going 7 of 10 on her way to 16 points and six rebounds. Arnold has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Marli Kate Shockley was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Wheeler was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tremont only racked up nine assists.

Tremont's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Gillespie, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Paige Gillespie, who put up six points and five steals.

Wheeler pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.7 points per game. As for Tremont, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeler will welcome East Union at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tremont, they will host Smithville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smithville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
