The Laney Buccaneers had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against Topsail as Laney made off with a 64-41 victory. Given Laney's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Topsail is ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hezron Driver continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Bowen, who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds.
Laney pushed their record up to 13-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Topsail, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Laney will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. As for Topsail, they will head out on the road to square off against Ashley at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
