Mercyhurst Prep (Erie, Pa.) saw its 21-point lead dwindle to two, but still managed to hang on and beat
Mercer (Pa.) 28-26 on Saturday.
The Lakers were up 14-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Cornelius Barclay in the second quarter.
Mercyhurst Prep expanded its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. MP scored three times in the third, including once on a defensive touchdown.
The Erie school's defense chipped in with six points of its own during the win.
Swanson stood out for the Lakers in the win. The junior running back caught one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Logan Clarke played well for the Mustangs. The sophomore quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown.
When the two teams played each other last season, Mercyhurst Prep came away with a 27-14 victory.
With the win MP extended its winning streak to three games.
Mercer (1-6) goes up against Keystone in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Mercyhurst Prep (5-2) locks horns with Iroquois in a District 10 Region 2 A game.
