The Winslow Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Monument Valley at home and fell 65-32. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Winslow has suffered yet this season.
Despite the defeat, Winslow saw an underclassman step up: Kaitlyn Belone scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Kylie Francis was another key contributor, scoring three points along with four steals.
Winslow struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Monument Valley posted 15 assists.
Monument Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keiryn Mann out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Mann is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Latisha Mutte, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Winslow's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Monument Valley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Winslow won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Holbrook at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Holbrook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Tuesday. As for Monument Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Window Rock at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Window Rock presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Monument Valley in Arizona (Window Rock is ranked seventh, while Monument Valley is ranked 61st).
