The Rutland Raiders entered their tilt with the Brattleboro Bears with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Rutland enjoyed a cozy 72-55 win over Brattleboro on Friday. Given Rutland's advantage in MaxPreps' Vermont basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Brattleboro is ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brattleboro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Cady, who scored 19 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cady has scored all season. Johnathon Haskins was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Rutland has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Brattleboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rutland will take on Burlington at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rutland is coming into the matchup with five straight wins at home, so Burlington is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Brattleboro will take on Mt. St. Joseph Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
