Seneca East had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the New Riegel Blue Jackets on Saturday. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Braydon Robinson and Brady Bloom made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Robinson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Bloom tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Furthermore, Robinson didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At bat, Robinson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Bloom went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Bloom a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nicolas Parks was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Blake Bumb, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Seneca East and New Riegel will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Seneca East is set to square off against their familiar foe Wynford at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, New Riegel will take on rival St. Mary Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
