Basketball Recap: Lathrop's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lathrop entered their tilt with Ceres on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 60-43 victory over the Ceres Bulldogs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Lathrop got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caiden Wisnieski out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That's the most boards Wisnieski has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryan Gamboa, who posted 12 points.

Lathrop was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ceres only racked up four assists.

When it comes to explaining why Ceres lost, don't look at Manuel Ortega. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tremond Karriem, who put up three points and eight rebounds.

Lathrop has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Ceres, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lathrop will face off against Johansen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Johansen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches. As for Ceres, they will welcome Pacheco at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ceres is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.
