Football Recap: Oceanside Skates Past Helix with Ease

Oceanside's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past the Helix Highlanders, posting a 41-14 victory. The Pirates' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Anthony Barquinero continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 236 yards and three TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. Neke Letuli helped Barquinero out on the ground, rushing for 106 yards and one score.

Oceanside didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Helix to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Mykah Faletoi for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Barquinero's standout performance, it's clear Helix's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Oceanside's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Adrian Luna was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Helix's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Calloway, who rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Calloway got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Robinson, who picked up 110 receiving yards and one TD.

Oceanside's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Helix, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.

Oceanside will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mount Miguel at 7:15 p.m. on the 26th. As for Helix, they will be playing at home against Cathedral Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
